Beeswax Candle Benefits

I’ve always loved candles. The ambiance, the smell. They’re cozy.

When I started learning more about the things that were triggering my migraines, I learned that artificial fragrance was one of my triggers. Candles became a thing of the past for me. And to be honest, so did a lot of things the more I learned about artificial fragrance.

It’s one of the most toxic substances that man makes. Part of the problem is that no company is required to tell you what’s in their concoctions, formally called “proprietary blends”. These blends are allowed to be kept secret and therefore, companies can sneak dangerous chemicals in there that can cause a whole host of issues, one such chemical commonly used is Phthalates. Health risks for phthalates are startling and include cancer, human reproductive and developmental toxicity, endocrine disruption, birth defects & respiratory problems.

You’ll find fragrance in a lot of your daily items like candles, laundry detergent, laundry softeners, dish soap, trash bags, shampoos and conditioners, skincare and body care products, bubble bath, candles, plug-in air fresheners, air freshener sprays, carpet cleaners, and so much more. They sneak it into everything.

Check your products for fragrance. If it has it, throw it out. There are better alternatives on the market for pretty much everything these days. When looking at your products, you’ll find the following terms used to hide the real ingredients and make them look unassuming: fragrance, perfume, parfum, essential oil blend, aroma.

You'll find products that use either no fragrance at all or use essential oils. Keep a lookout for the term “natural fragrance” as well, this one can be deceiving. If they don’t list the ingredients, assume that there’s something in there you don’t want to breathe into your body. One of my favorite replacements now is beeswax candles. Not only do they smell amazing, like honey or some come with essential oils, but they also have incredible health benefits too.

-Beeswax is a natural, renewable resource

-They purify the air - a natural ionizer; they emit negative ions, the stuff in your air like dust and dander carry a positive charge, so the ions in the beeswax candles neutralize the pollutants you don’t want to breathe.

-They’re clean burning - no soot, this makes them a great option for people with allergies and asthma.

-They produce white light in the same spectrum as the sun making it better for your body as a natural light source.
