The Warm Embrace of Chai: A Look at Our New Traditional & Decaf Blends
There’s something deeply comforting about a cup of chai—the rich aroma of cinnamon and cardamom, the gentle heat of ginger, the perfect balance of spice and warmth. It’s a drink that feels like a hug in a mug, steeped in tradition and full of flavor.
I’ve always loved the ritual of chai, from the slow simmer of spices to that first sip that instantly soothes the soul. That’s why I’m so excited to introduce our new Traditional and Decaf Chai blends, handcrafted with organic ingredients for the perfect cozy cup.
A Brief History of Chai
Chai has been cherished for centuries, with roots in ancient India, where spiced tea was used as both a healing tonic and a daily ritual. The word “chai” simply means tea in Hindi, but what most of us know as masala chai—a blend of black tea, spices, milk, and sweetener—became widely popular in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Each region in India has its own take on chai, with families passing down spice blends from generation to generation. Some prefer it extra bold with black pepper, others highlight floral notes with cardamom, and some like it sweet and creamy with extra milk and honey. No matter how it’s made, chai is more than just a drink—it’s a ritual, a moment of pause, a connection to tradition.
What Makes Our Chai Special?
We didn’t just throw together spices—we carefully crafted these blends to balance flavor, aroma, and health benefits, choosing each ingredient with intention.
Traditional Chai: Bold, Smooth, and Full of Depth
At the heart of our Traditional Chai is Assam TGFOP (Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe) black tea—a high-grade, full-bodied tea known for its deep, malty richness.
Why Assam TGFOP?
• Superior Quality – “TGFOP” means this tea is made from the top leaves and buds, resulting in a smoother, more complex flavor than lower-grade black teas.
• Full-Bodied & Malty – Assam tea is naturally strong and slightly sweet, which pairs beautifully with chai spices.
• Perfect for Chai Lattes – Its bold structure stands up well to milk and honey, making it ideal for a creamy, traditional brew.
The spices in our Traditional Chai were chosen for their flavor complexity and health benefits:
• Cinnamon (Ceylon & Cassia Blend) – Adds natural sweetness, warmth, and helps regulate blood sugar.
• Cardamom (Green, High-Grade Pods) – Brings a floral, citrusy brightness while aiding digestion.
• Ginger (Sun-Dried & Fresh Cut) – Provides a spicy kick and supports gut health & circulation.
• Cloves (Hand-Selected Buds) – Deepens the spice profile and offers powerful antioxidants.
• Black Pepper (Cracked for Freshness) – Enhances bioavailability of other spices, making their benefits even stronger.
Decaf Chai: Smooth, Naturally Sweet, and Caffeine-Free
For our Decaf Chai, we swapped black tea for organic rooibos, an herbal tea known for its naturally sweet, earthy flavor and health-boosting properties.
Why Rooibos?
• Naturally Caffeine-Free – No decaffeination process needed, so it retains all its nutrients.
• Rich in Antioxidants – Helps fight free radicals and supports immune health.
• Naturally Smooth & Sweet – No bitterness, just a deep, comforting warmth.
We used the same carefully chosen spices as our Traditional Chai to create a caffeine-free version that still delivers the rich, spiced flavor of a classic chai. Rooibos has a natural honey-like sweetness that pairs beautifully with cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger, making this blend just as indulgent as its black tea counterpart.
Both blends are handcrafted in small batches and made with 100% organic ingredients—because the best chai starts with the best ingredients.
How to Brew the Perfect Cup
Chai is all about slow brewing and layering flavors. Here’s how to get the most out of your cup:
Classic Hot Chai
1. Add 1-2 teaspoons of chai to 8 oz. of hot water.
2. Steep for 5-7 minutes (or longer for a bolder brew).
3. Add steamed milk and a touch of honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
Iced Chai
1. Brew a strong batch of chai (double the amount of tea).
2. Let it cool, then pour over ice.
3. Add cold milk and a drizzle of honey for a refreshing iced chai.
Chai Latte Recipe (Rich & Creamy!)
For a traditional chai latte, simmering the spices helps bring out even more depth:
Ingredients:
• 1 cup water
• 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
• 2 tsp chai
• 1-2 tsp honey or maple syrup
Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and add the chai.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Add milk and heat until warm, but not boiling.
4. Strain into a mug, sweeten to taste, and enjoy!
To make a chai latte like a coffee shop, you’ll need a way to steam/froth the milk. Here is an option to do that without needing an entire espresso machine… unless you want one of those. I’ll link the one I have, as well, here!
